APPLETON - Some area singers are tuning up for a national competition.
Cantala, Lawrence University's women's choir, has been chosen to participate in the country's largest choral competition.
The group gave a taste of its music Wednesday night in Appleton. Cantala will perform for the four-day American Choral Director's Association national conference in Chicago a week from Saturday.
The group was the only collegiate women's choir selected.
“The women of Cantala come from all over Lawrence University. They make up a huge cross-section of ages, classes, and also majors and interests,” member Jaclyn Cottman said. “We have a lot of women who are not actually voice majors but sing in Cantala, and I think this gives our ensemble a special kind of diversity that is really unique to chorale ensembles on the whole.”
Cantala will perform its 7-song, 22-minute program entitled "Jekyll, Hyde...Seek" twice during the event.
