NEW LONDON - The New London Police Department says it is looking for leads in the 1985 hit-and-run death of Frank Latza.
Police say on July 18, 1985 Latza was struck by a van on Waupaca St. in New London at 9:35 p.m. Responding officers found Latza lying in the roadway, alive and in pain. He died later that evening at the New London Community Hospital from his injuries.
Police say the vehicle that hit Latza never stopped to help.
The New London Police Department began its investigation right away. Witnesses provided several tips including a description of the van that struck Latza.
That van is described as being dark in color. It may have been painted a few times prior to the crash. Witnesses described the van as having a white stripe on the side, possibly two white stripes. It is also believed to have round headlights and may have had vertical windows that were custom made. (See the attached image of the composite sketch that was drawn of the vehicle.)
New London police are asking anyone who had previously given a statement and/or was interviewed during the original investigation to contact Detective Cheri Johnson at (920) 982-8505.
