APPLETON - Some local leaders gathered in Appleton Wednesday to discuss ways to make the Fox Valley more inclusive.
The community-wide initiative involved more than 350 community leaders.
The four month initiative is called "INCLUDE."
It's designed to change attitudes and behaviors toward the gay and lesbian community.
Wednesday’s breakfast meeting involved testimonials and ideas for school and community programs.
Those in attendance say change is needed.
"It's got to start with awareness and understanding and then people can change behaviors from there,” said Paula Morgen, community health manager with ThedaCare. “A lot of it is because of the social pressures, the bullying, the harassments, and the exclusions that happen in society."
The four month initiative wraps up on April 20th with a Night of Noise.
Organizers say on that day people are encouraged to come together and talk about what they've learned.
