NEW LONDON - A 41-year-old man is safe after a fire broke out in his New London home Tuesday.
Police say John Janke called 911 just before 2 p.m., saying that he was trapped on the second floor of his burning house.
When firefighters arrived, they found Janke hanging out of an upstairs window. Officers were able to safely get him down.
He was transported to an area hospital with smoke inhalation and second and third-degree burns.
The W. Waupaca St. home was extensively damaged.
Officers say it appears the fire started in a bedroom wall near a light switch.
The Red Cross is assisting Janke, his wife, and their three children.
