Kittens thrown out of moving vehicle

NEENAH - Two kittens are recovering after apparently being thrown from a moving car. Now Neenah police are looking for who did it.

Investigators say it happened Saturday morning near the intersection of South Commercial Street and Carriage Street, and while cats don't really have nine lives, the two kittens are lucky to still have the one they do.

"Animals do get abandoned. I haven't heard of one being thrown from a car window, but obviously to these two little kittens, that's what's happened to them," said April Pinnow, manager of the Neenah Animal Shelter.

The kittens are just a few weeks old. The two were allegedly thrown from a moving car Saturday morning along a busy stretch of Commercial Street in Neenah.

"Anytime an animal gets abused, especially kittens, it's so senseless. If you have animals you don't want, just give them to the shelter," said Neenah Police Dept. Lt. Jeff Malcore.

A witness saw the kittens thrown from the window of a black Jeep Wrangler with a soft top. One kitten fell down this storm sewer. Neighbors and police were able to get it out with a net after about 45 minutes.

The second kitten was found hiding under the hood of a car in the Copps grocery store parking lot just a few blocks down the road from where the kittens were thrown from the vehicle. Both kittens are recovering at the Neenah Animal Shelter and are expected to be okay.

"I'd like to think these people just didn't know what to do and they weren't trying to hurt these animals, but we won't know for sure until we catch these people," said Pinnow.

Police say the vehicle was last seen heading south on S. Commercial Street. They are asking anyone with information to call the Neenah Police Department.

The kittens are being held at the shelter for seven days. They will then be put up for adoption.
