Police: Drunken driver rear-ends squad car

NEENAH - A Menasha man received several tickets after Neenah police say he rear-ended a squad car early Saturday morning.

Police say the crash happened just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Green Bay Road. The officer was stopped at a flashing red light when his marked squad car was hit from behind by a driver identified as Charley D. Campbell, 33, of Menasha.

When the officer got out and went to check on Campbell, he noticed signs of drunkenness. After sobriety tests, Campbell was given a ticket for operating while intoxicated and operating with a prohibited alcohol content. After further investigation, Campbell was also given tickets for operating with a suspended license, failing to maintain vehicle insurance and operating a vehicle with expired registration. Police said Campbell’s registration had been expired for more than three years.

Campbell told officers he was going back to a bar to retrieve something he had forgotten.

Police said the crash caused $5,000 worth of damage to the squad car.
