Neenah teacher resigns amid investigation

NEENAH - A second-grade teacher in Neenah is no longer with the district after she allegedly sent pictures of her students to a prison inmate.

Parents of Tullar Elementary School students were notified of this situation in a letter sent home Thursday afternoon.

According to the letter, the prison notified the school district last week that second-grade teacher Christina Peerenboom had sent a package to one of its inmates. The district described the inmate as a friend of Peerenboom.

Peerenboom didn't return our phone calls seeking comment.

In the package, prison officials found class pictures of Peerenboom's students with their names. In the inmate's cell they found three other class pictures, including ones that had student names.

When the district found out, they removed Peerenboom from Tullar. Neenah School Board President Scott Thompson says Peerenboom has resigned.

Thompson told FOX 11 he isn't sure why Peerenboom sent the pictures or if she had any sort of malicious intent.

“The teacher was liked by the students in the class, was liked by the parents and other staff members at the school and being removed from the school, people were asking what the situation was,” said Thompson. “Anytime you expose little kids' names, pictures and those kinds of things to someone in a correctional facility, we don't think that's appropriate behavior.”

Thompson wasn't sure which prison the pictures were sent to.

Neenah police have been notified. So have the parents of the children involved.

FOX 11 spoke with Winnebago County's District Attorney Christian Gossett. He said his office has not received any documents concerning the allegations.
