No snow? Time for December water skiing

Oshkosh man takes advantage of mild December

OSHKOSH - Troy Stowe knows what he is doing isn’t normal for December.

“We're doing it all year long and your body kind of adjusts to it,” said Stowe.

Stowe, 25, has been water skiing since he was about five years old. But this is his first time doing it during the final month of a year.

“You can see your breath, but it's what I love to do, so I'm going to keep being out here as long as I can until it finally ices over for good,” said Stowe.

Stowe says it’s been a while since he's seen any other skiers on the Fox River. His dad, Gary, usually joins him.

“I went into early November and that's as cold as I can take,” said Gary Stowe. “I think he's a little crazy.”

Others agree.

“That's crazy,” said Erik Jacobsen, an employee at Skiers Outlet in Oshkosh. “He's got more guts than I do.”

Jacobson says the only type of skiing he'll be doing this time of year involves snow.

“A lot of ski hills are starting to open up, so people are starting to get excited,” said Jacobsen.

When snow hits our area, Troy Stowe will have to find something else to do with his December days.

“Hopefully it's only we put the boat away for a month to two months and we can be out skiing again,” said Stowe.
