APPLETON - Black Friday may have been a big day for businesses, but the next day was an important one for the Salvation Army in the Fox Valley and Oshkosh.
With a matching donation from the J.J. Keller Foundation, Inc., the charity said it raised a total of $35,338 for its Christmas campaign on Saturday. The foundation had offered to match up to $25,000 donated to red kettles in the Fox Valley. The final total collected in red kettles was $17,669.
Overall, it was the largest single day total so far in the campaign, which began Nov. 4.
In Oshkosh, the foundation matched $4,100 in community donations for a total of $8,200.
Upcoming match days in the Fox Valley are Friday, when Thrivent Financial for Lutherans offers to match up to $125,000 in donations; Dec. 4, when Bassett Mechanical offers to match up to $5,000; Dec. 5, when Kimberly-Clark offers to match up to $10,000; and Dec. 7, when Capital Credit Union offers to match up to $25,000.
The Christmas campaign runs until Dec. 24. The goal for the Fox Cities campaign is $1.2 million.
