APPLETON - Just over 70 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor that catapulted the United States into World War II, a local group is planning an honor flight to Hawaii for area veterans.
Old Glory Honor Flight is looking for veterans to take the trip as well as financial support. The Appleton-based group says there are about 40 living Pearl Harbor survivors in Wisconsin.
To be eligible for the trip, the veteran must live in the state of Wisconsin. Pearl Harbor survivors are defined as those who were stationed on the island of Oahu or at sea and within three nautical miles of the attack between 7:55 a.m. and 9:25 a.m. on Dec. 7, 1941.
For more information or to apply, call 1-888-635-9838. The application deadline is Feb. 6. The trip is scheduled for June 14-18.
Since 2009, Old Glory Honor Flight has been taking World War II veterans on day trips to Washington, D.C. to visit the National World War II Memorial.
