CHILTON - The suspect in a stabbing last summer at Darboy Community Park was convicted after reaching a deal with prosecutors.
Devon Helmrath, 18, stabbed a 73-year-old man who was out for a walk. Police say Helmrath asked him to help find a cell phone. Officials say Helmrath stabbed the man in the back when they walked into the woods. The victim survived and was able to call police.
The victim recovered from his injuries.
The charge of attempted first-degree intentional homicide was reduced to first-degree reckless endangering safety at a hearing Monday in Calumet County court. No sentencing date was set.
