APPLETON - An Appleton man was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison for killing his mother and dumping her body in the Fox River.
Randal Rosenthal, 35, was convicted in November of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of 52-year-old Kathleen Remter.
Prosecutors say Rosenthal killed Remter to collect her $586,000 life insurance policy. She was found dead in the Fox River in July of 2011. Investigators say Remter had been shot in the back of the head.
Those at Wednesday's sentencing say they can now begin to heal.
"While the victim in this was Kathleen, she didn't get to say goodbye to anyone, or did she get to come home; nor did she get that final 'I love you,'" said Betsy Tesch, victim's sister.
"I would just like to take this time to thank my family and all my friends who support me and my family," said Randal Rosenthal.
Rosenthal will first be eligible for parole in 2061.
