Stolen scrapbook seller busted for taxes

GREEN BAY - An Appleton woman has been convicted of tax evasion for failing to report income she received when she sold stolen scrapbooking goods over the Internet.

Diane L. Baugh, 56, was convicted on three counts based on failing to report more than $300,000 in income. Prosecutors said she sold the materials using eBay and direct email.

An investigation showed Baugh sold the scrapbooking materials between January 2005 and April 2010. She received the materials from Virginia Akers, a 67-year-old Indiana woman who shoplifted them from Hobby Lobby stores in several states.

In January, Akers was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for her role in the crime. She was also ordered to pay Hobby Lobby $2.2 million in restitution.

Baugh is set to be sentenced May 21. She could spend up to 15 years in federal prison.
