APPLETON - Tuesday night, thousands of residents in Appleton lined the streets and braved the outdoor elements. They were anxious to take in the 42nd Annual Christmas Parade, kicking off the holiday season.
Many who come out to Appleton's Downtown Christmas Parade are veterans, but others have missed out on 41 years of fun.
"Every other year we've tried to come here it's been too cold or rainy," said Kris Wisniewski.
But the mild weather prompted many to make up for lost time.
"We are here because it's a beautiful evening, finally, tonight for a Christmas parade," said Kim Spielbauer.
This year's fun, festivities, and floats did not disappoint.
"It's crazy. People told us it would be crazy and it's crazy, but it's a good crazy. Everyone's in a festive mood," said Sarah Berken.
The theme of this year's parade was "The Music and Lights of Christmas."
So some spectators told us and even sang us their favorite holiday tunes, but while the music is magical, the parade is truly a feast for the eyes.
And for many the best float of all contains one essential character... Santa! After 42 years, the jolly old elf never disappoints.
This year's parade also recognized the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center's 10th anniversary as the route on College Avenue goes right past the PAC.
