CALUMET COUNTY - A portion of the town of Harrison in Calumet County is a step closer to becoming a village.
The state's Incorporation Review Board met Tuesday and approved the petition.
It now goes to would-be village residents to vote on. However, a vote on a binding referendum has yet to be scheduled.
If a referendum is approved, the village would be 5 square miles. It would be located in the northwest portion of the current town. That area is about 70 percent of the population of the town.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town of Harrison's population in 2010 was 10,839.
