Hanna defeats Konetzke in Appleton mayoral race

APPLETON - Voters in Appleton have spoken. Mayor Tim Hanna will serve a fifth term.

"It's a very humbling experience when you ask people to trust you, trust you with their money, trust you with their community and they say, ‘Yes. We trust you.’ It feels very good," said Hanna.

Hanna's challenger in the race, Curt Konetzke, says he is also humbled by the voters who showed him support. The common council member says he wishes the outcome would have been different, but he's happy he put up a good fight.

"Certainly going against a 16 year incumbent, I had an uphill battle and I think I did fairly well. No, I did very well to reach that goal and again, it didn't turn out the way I hoped, but I'm not going anywhere. I will be at city council tomorrow night casting my vote as an alderperson and I'll still be involved in the community like I had done before," said Konetzke.

Konetzke says he is also ready to get back to work alongside the man he ran against.

"I think Tim and I will have good communication about things I'd like to see him work on and hopefully I'll be able to take it to the city council and move on,” said Konetzke.

Likewise, Mayor Hanna is also looking to the future. He says he is excited to build on his 16 years of service for Appleton. Hanna says the city is going places.

“We’ve got a lot going on with the river. We've got plans for our downtown. There's a lot that we're working on in terms of economic development, but you know, I’m just looking forward to going to work tomorrow,” said Hanna.
