NASCAR team owner seriously injured

OSHKOSH - NASCAR team owner Jack Roush was involved in a plane crash at Wittman Regional Airport Tuesday evening.  He was transported to Theda Clark Medical Center in critical condition, but was upgraded Tuesday night to serious, but stable condition.

Roush, of Northville Mich., and passenger Brenda Stickland of Plymoth, Mich. were in the twin engine Beechcraft Premiere business jet when it skidded off the north south runway during landing. 

It happened around 6:15 shortly after the air show ended.  The plane is registered to Roush Fenway Racing, LLC . 

Both Roush and Strickland were able to get out with assistance and were transported to the hospital.

According to a news release from EAA, Strickland has non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses say the plane was clearly in distress, appeared to stall in the air, then came down with the wings at an odd angle.

Roush is well known in the racing circuit and at AirVenture where he has a performance display in the Ford Hanger.  He is scheduled to sign autographs there tomorrow and was at an AirVenture presentation Tuesday morning.

The 68-year-old also survived a plane crash in 2002, when his aircraft crashed into an Alabama lake. 

The NTSB and FAA are investigation the incident.  NTSB officials remained on scene late Tuesday.  Officials say it could be weeks before the cause of the crash is known.

The crash stopped take-off and landing operations at EAA AirVenture as crews cleaned up the wreckage.  Wittman Regional Airport operations normally stop at 8:00 p.m.
