GRAND CHUTE - Its video being shown all over: a young fan at Donald Driver's Charity Softball Game having the shoe tossed to him by Driver taken from him by another fan. Well now, a resolution for the Ripon boy who might have left Sunday’s game empty-handed, but has his hand's full now.
Twelve-year-old Stephen Wagner is a catcher for his Ripon baseball team, but on Sunday he was watching his favorite football player, Donald Driver in the Packers’ charity softball game.
Stephen felt lucky when Driver threw a cleat his way.
“Well, I'm gonna get this…I had my arms around it like this and she grabbed it out of my arms and started to walk away," said Stephen.
The "she" in question is an adult named Robyn Ereth, who you can see in video from the game taking the cleat from Stephen.
"I was pretty bummed that I didn't get the cleat," said Stephen.
But since the video went public Donald Driver himself stepped forward. He found Stephen and met up with the boy Monday night to make things right, giving him cleats, a jersey and more.
"It was cool and it was also nice of him for doing that for me," said Stephen.
Driver also spent some time with his young fan.
Stephen and his parents also met with Ereth who Stephen's mother Mary said is very sorry for what happened.
"[She] was very very sorry and we just tried to reassure that it's not something we're angry about or upset about. It was just two excited fans," said Mary.
Ereth posted a picture of herself with the cleat on her Facebook page. That page has since been taken down.
FOX 11 spoke with Ereth on the phone. She said she did not wish to talk about the incident now, but may in the future.
Mary said her son forgives Ereth.
"He's just a really nice boy, he just, from the heart he feels things deeply. He has a good heart," said Mary.
Stephen told FOX 11 he hopes the rest of Packer Nation can do the same.
"People, don't be mean to her. Don't send her mean messages, because she just wanted something from the game," Stephen said about Ereth.
After meeting with the Wagners, Driver posted this comment on his Facebook page: "Packer Nation, let's remember that the woman who grabbed the shoe is human. We all make mistakes. Stephen is happy and that is what's most important! God Bless!"
