GREEN BAY - Green Bay has officially entered the Google sweepstakes.
The battle is over Google's experimental ultra-high-speed Internet service.
Mayor Jim Schmitt sent off the city's application Friday.
Earlier this year, Google asked interested cities to send in applications to be part of the test project. Friday was the deadline to submit applications. Appleton submitted its request earlier this month.
Schmitt said he liked Green Bay's chances.
“We don't have to promote our name. Everybody knows who we are,” Schmitt said. “And when you think of the name Green Bay, you have good feelings.”
In a blog post written Friday before Green Bay’s official application, Google said it had received more than 600 community responses. The Internet search giant says it is thrilled to see all the interest.
