Salvation Army bell ringing campaigns in both the Green Bay and Appleton areas eclipsed $1 million in donations, but one of those groups is still short of its goal.
This week, the Salvation Army of Brown County said it was about $152,031, or 13 percent, short of its $1.2 million goal. The charity is continuing its Christmas campaign through the month of January. Donations can be made online or sent by mail to The Salvation Army of Brown County, 626 Union Ct., Green Bay, WI 54303.
In the Fox Valley, the news is a little brighter. The Salvation Army-Fox Cities said it exceeded its $1.2 million goal by $18,200. Leaders there say about half of the money was raised on nearly a dozen match days, where area businesses and charitable groups matched community donations.
Both Salvation Army corps say they rely heavily on red kettle donations to support their efforts year-round. Proceeds to toward programs such as the noon meal program, food pantries and rent assistance.
