Red kettle results released

Salvation Army bell ringing campaigns in both the Green Bay and Appleton areas eclipsed $1 million in donations, but one of those groups is still short of its goal.

This week, the Salvation Army of Brown County said it was about $152,031, or 13 percent, short of its $1.2 million goal. The charity is continuing its Christmas campaign through the month of January. In the Fox Valley, the news is a little brighter. The Salvation Army-Fox Cities said it exceeded its $1.2 million goal by $18,200. Leaders there say about half of the money was raised on nearly a dozen match days, where area businesses and charitable groups matched community donations.

Both Salvation Army corps say they rely heavily on red kettle donations to support their efforts year-round. Proceeds to toward programs such as the noon meal program, food pantries and rent assistance.
