DE PERE - We're learning more about a triple-murder suicide which happened one week ago. Late Friday, De Pere police released a transcript of the 911 call from that incident.
According to the transcript, Denis Bay admitted to a 911 call taker that he killed his wife Michelle and their two children Andrea and Daniel. Denis Bay then killed himself.
Shortly after 3:00 p.m. last Friday, Brown County 911 dispatch received a shocking call from a distressed man.
“The person called and said he had just shot three other people and then was going to kill himself,” said De Pere Police Chief Derek Beiderwieden in an interview on February 3rd.
According to the 911 transcripts, it soon became clear who were the victims in the shooting.
Call Taker: Who am I speaking to?
Dennis Bay: Denis.
Call Taker: And Denis who were your victims?
Dennis Bay: Uh...my wife and kids.
Bay admitted he used a .45 caliber handgun to kill his family.
The call taker continued to try to keep Bay on the line, even after police had arrived on the scene. The 911 operator asked Bay why he did it.
Call Taker: And what made you decide to do this?
Dennis Bay: It's long and complicated. I don't want to go into it.
Later in the call, Bay blamed his wife. He said his complicated marriage was getting to be too much.
The couple had been going through a divorce since October of 2010.
Another shocking revelation, Bay told police where they could find his family's bodies.
Dennis Bay: The doors are open to get into the house. When you walk into the house and go straight down the hall and it will be the first bedroom on the left hand side.
The 911 worker continued to try to reason with Bay.
Call Taker: I want you to stay with me Denis.
Denis Bay: Why? I killed three people. I'm going to prison and I told myself I would never go to prison.
Shortly after, the dispatcher lost contact with Bay.
Call Taker: I want you to stay with me. Denis? Denis? Denis? Denis?
Authorities told me at this point, they don't know when or if they will release the audio of the 911 call. They say the investigation continues.
A preliminary report could be released as soon as Monday.
