Green Bay police ID man found outside

GREEN BAY - Cold weather may be a factor in a Green Bay man's death.

But an autopsy still needs to be done.

Earl Reed, 53, was found around 7:00 Wednesday morning at the intersection of Main Street and Deckner Avenue.

Authorities say people passing by tired to revive Reed, but it was too late.

Police say Earl Reed was found in a snow bank. Officers say Reed could have been there for several hours.

"From what we can see right now, we don't see any obvious injuries, no trauma on him. But again, we'll have to do further medical examinations to see what happened," said Capt. Todd Thomas, Green Bay Police Department.

Police wouldn't say if alcohol was a factor. Officers say the man lived in the area, and may have gone missing the night before.

"We have some information that somebody might have called earlier in the evening, looking for him," said Thomas.

This is the second body found outside in Green Bay this year. 38-year-old Brian Hicks died in the driveway of his Green Bay home last month. 

Authorities said alcohol and exposure were factors in that death.

In both cases, police say the victims were found without shoes. Doctors say extreme cases of frostbite or hypothermia can be fatal.

"Sometimes people get a burning sensation in their extremities when that happens because the body wants to keep all the heat inside, and keep the vital organs warm," said Dr. Thomas Boyd, Bellin Health.

Meanwhile, the police investigation continues.

"We'll do some interviews with people who were last with him, and try to figure out exactly where he might have been headed, or who was with him last," said Thomas.

The Brown County Medical Examiner says an official cause of death will be released after the autopsy is done.
