Area children awarded for saving energy

GREEN BAY - Some area children were recognized nationally Wednesday afternoon for helping save energy.

The children produced the most popular video in a national challenge.

They showed ways for families to save energy. For example, turning off lights and electronics when not in use.

The children took part in energy-saving demonstrations and games at the Boys and Girls Club, where they received the award.

"These kids are our future adults and so if we can teach them now about saving energy and protecting the climate, they're going to be better stewards of this environment in the future," said Brittney Gordon-Williams of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which sponsored the challenge.

The children received free energy-efficient electronics for their award-winning video submission.
