GREEN BAY - Students at Washington Middle School in Green Bay put on a birthday party Monday to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Junior's life.
It was put on by a group called "Strivers," African-American students who want to go to college.
During the party, students shared personal essays on how they plan to continue King's dream.
There was also a video montage of his life.
Those involved say it's important to remember King and bring students together.
"It's very important, that's one of the great things about Washington is that we have such a diverse group of students so although its being led by black students and we take a half hour a day to just be together and grow together its so important that everybody's there to celebrate who everybody is," said Juliana Jakubowski, Washington Middle School teacher.
A podcast created by the Strivers was also shown in social studies classes throughout the day.
