GREEN BAY - A three week drive to try to keep people in Brown County warm this winter began Tuesday.
As part of the second annual Blanketing Brown County drive people can drop off new and gently used blankets at Brown County Library branches, Green Bay fire stations and Shopko stores through January 29.
Those blankets will then go to schools, homeless shelters, plus other companies and organizations.
"People don't realize how many homeless school children we have in Brown County and around the country so it's important that we have a place for them to sleep. If they don't have a blanket then at least they can lay blankets down and have a cushion to sleep on in wherever they are sleeping,” said Jim Ridderbush, Greater Green Bay Labor Council Community Services Committee.
More than 850 blankets were collected last year. The Labor Council and the United Way say they hope to receive more than 1,000 this year.
