GREEN BAY - Some leaders in Brown County say proof is in the numbers when talking about the success of a drunken driving task force.
The Wisconsin Bureau of Transportation Safety says 11 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes in 2010. Nine were killed in 2011. And last year, that number dropped to five.
The county's OWI Task Force was formed in 2011.
At a news conference Monday morning, members of the task force discussed what they call success.
"The public is sick and tired of innocent people being killed by drunk drivers, drunk driving is a very selfish choice, you make the decision to drink and drive and that's why the task force is out there in the sense that hopefully we're the deterrent to stop people from doing it, but if they are going to drink and drive, we're going to be out there to put them behind bars,” said Michael Panosh, Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
The task force made 103 OWI arrests in its first and 175 last year.
