Christmas tree sales good despite warm weather

NEW FRANKEN - While the temperature outside may not have you feeling like Christmas is upon us, 'tis the season to put up that Christmas tree—and that might get you in the holiday spirit.

Diane Greatens's grandson Eli squealed with excitement as four generations of this family hunted for the perfect Christmas tree together.

“I just think it's a fun thing to do as a family. We might not have even found a tree, but it was nice just getting out,” said Greatens.

Though there was no snow on the ground, folks said as they went out and started looking for their very own evergreen, it began to feel more like Christmas.

"It’s just fun looking for a tree and bringing it in and saying, ‘this is one I found in the woods,’" said Greatens.

It didn't hurt that the man selling their blue spruce and balsam firs bears an uncanny resemblance to that guy from the North Pole.

"Krause and Klaus are so close together in German, we just sort of capitalized on that. And the kids all think I look like Santa Claus,” said Ken Krause, the owner of Santa Krause Christmas Trees.

Krause said while customers don't have the picturesque snowy surroundings this year, they're still coming in for a good deal on a tree: $25 each, no matter the size.

"They were waiting for me when I got here this morning. The weather, it doesn't seem to have an effect on it,” said Krause.

The folks at Santa Krause Christmas Trees may not have driven away in a one horse open sleigh, but they did drive away satisfied, with an evergreen reminder of holiday cheer to take home.

Santa Krause's owner says his sales are up slightly this year. He thinks people have continued to spend on Christmas traditions despite a down economy.
