GREEN BAY - Some area college freshmen are learning a lesson before classes even begin - a lesson in service.
More than 400 students took part in Saint Norbert College's 9th annual "Into the Streets" event Saturday.
Each year, first-year students spend the day at 25 different locations doing various service activities.
Some students spent the day sprucing up the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary.
Those who took part said the event is a great way to feel connected to the community.
"This experience has been great. We're learning about communal, which is about working together and becoming a part of a big community," said Avery Kohrell.
In 2011, more than 350 students volunteered over 600 hours of service to the community.
