DE PERE - An area community came together Saturday to honor and raise money for an injured soldier.
Sergeant Adam Alexander is a member of the 432nd Civil Affairs Battalion based in Ashwaubenon. He's from Potosi, Wisconsin.
Alexander was injured in November, 2011 when his unit came under attack in Afghanistan. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
Saturday folks gathered at the Chicago Street Pub and Grill in De Pere to raise money for the solider.
Alexander is currently in Minneapolis recovering from several brain surgeries. He had to have the right frontal lobe of his brain removed and also lost sight in his right eye.
Alexander's parents say the amount of support has been overwhelming and appreciated.
"The wonderful people of Green Bay wanted to show their love and support for Adam, and they organized this beautiful benefit to celebrate our son's life and give him support," said Adam's mother, Mary Kay Alexander.
"We want to thank everyone for coming here today and contributing it just makes everything a lot easier," said Adam's father, Steve Alexander.
Alexander's parents say the proceeds will go toward paying off some of his debts.
