BROWN COUNTY - The investigation continues into a deadly construction accident on Highway 41 in the De Pere area.
It happened Friday morning on a construction site in the highway’s median just south of Scheuring Rd.
That's where authorities say a crane arm fell and killed a 58-year-old construction worker from Black River Falls.
Investigators say they're still trying to piece together what happened.
“Two construction workers were unloading a crane from a trailer that they were attempting to assemble. The crane fell off the trailer and pinned a man, a 58-year-old man to the ground,” said Officer Chris Baribeau with the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department.
The incident slowed highway traffic for several hours.
The man was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are not naming the other worker involved.
“He was in the crane, and he was really shaken up on the scene,” said Baribeau.
Authorities say both men work for Lunda Construction of Black River Falls, a subcontractor involved in the US 41 construction project.
Lunda would not comment on the incident. The company directed all calls to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
“Any injury is not welcome, but a fatality like this, it's a very tragic event. Our thoughts and prayers are with the employee's family,” said Michael King, US 41 construction supervisor.
King expects construction in that area will resume as normal on Monday.
OSHA is also investigating the incident.
Officials tell FOX 11, since it involved a fatality, the investigation could take several months.
