BELLEVUE - The Brown County Sheriff's Department is awarding one of its own for efforts to fight drunken driving.
Deputy Greg Gleason was given the Truttman Award.
He's made 49 OWI arrests this year.
The award is in remembrance of Sergeant Wayne Truttman, who was killed in the line of duty and his son was killed by a drunken driver.
Deputy Gleason says making OWI arrests is often a positive experience.
"In the end, by the time the person gets to go home or unfortunately to jail. By that time they're usually thankful to me for doing a professional job, for making them aware of what they've done and waking them up so that nobody got hurt or killed that they would have been responsible for," said Gleason.
In the last year the Brown County Sheriff's Office has made 527 drunken driving arrests.
