GREEN BAY - While some crashes were severe, Winter Storm Alan also caused smaller fender benders. That includes a few crashes with street signs.
The Green Bay traffic engineer says 40 to 50 accidents just like these are reported each year.
It costs the city 75 to 150 dollars to replace each sign.
Hitting a sign won't get you a ticket, but authorities will send you a bill.
And police stress the importance of reporting the damaged signs.
"The most important thing if a driver does hit a sign is to stay at the scene of the crash. We encounter a lot of hit and runs throughout the city and we encourage people to stay at the scene,” said Lt. Kevin Warych, Green Bay Police Department.
If you hit a sign or see one down in your neighborhood, you’re asked to call the Green Bay Police Department non-emergency number at (920) 448-3200.
