East Coast Packers fans bike 1,000+ miles to Lambeau

GREEN BAY - A grueling 1,000-mile bicycle trip in sub-zero temperatures, just to get to Lambeau Field, all started as a bet for two caddies from the Washington, D.C. area.

"I bought a share about a month ago and I walked into work and said hey, I bought a share of the Packers. I am now an official owner of the NFL franchise team,” said Rich Dingus.

Kurt Seifert teased Rich Dingus about being a high-rolling owner. Dingus said he wanted to make a trip to Lambeau, and a challenge was made.

"I said why don't you ride your bike? And he hit me back with the, ‘You're contributing to the obesity problem in America. Why don't you ride your bike?’" said Seifert.

So the pair decided to make that trip together. To make their challenge legitimate, they raised more than $40,000 from their golf club members for charities benefiting veterans before leaving Virginia.

"Once we told people we were doing this to raise awareness for the soldiers and to say thank you, people came out left and right wanting to hug us, kiss us, shake our hands and tell us thank you," said Dingus.

"One goal, one purpose, one mind one heart! Love it. Green and Gold! Yeah, Lambeau!" yelled Dingus as he rode past Lambeau Field for the first time.

"This is fantastic! I am ecstatic," he said, taking off his goggles and helmet, and hugging his friend.

The pair says even though they won't be able to take in an NFC Championship Game at the stadium this weekend, their trip means so much.

“As we got on the trail to come here, the people we've met, it's taken it beyond just coming to a football game. It makes it why it's one of the best months of my life," said Dingus.

The guys say they're planning a more conventional mode of transportation when they make a return trip for a game next season. But, they'll never forget the journey that brought them to this football promised land.
