Enjoying the fresh snowfall

GREEN BAY - Some area residents made the best of Winter Storm Denise, even during the worst part of the storm.

The fresh snow was a green light for the Ashwaubenon Nordic Ski Team.

With the snow still falling, the group hit the trails at the Brown County Reforestation Camp Wednesday afternoon.

"Very, very excited. We usually don't have this good of snow, it's awesome," said team member Kyler Berg.

The coach says it's perfect timing.

"There are two important meets coming up for us," explained Ski Team Head Coach Scott Putman. "There's actually a ski race we host that's a fundraiser for us up at Lakewood ski trails. The second one, the state meet is the weekend of the 9th and 10th up in Rhinelander. Rhinelander's been low on snow, it's good they're getting snow out of this too."

Brown County Parks officials say almost as soon as the snow started to fall, crews were already out grooming the trails.

Officials say they'll be out once again in the morning to smooth out the fresh snowfall.

But others on Green Bay's west side took more of a downhill approach. Fireman's hill was packed with families enjoying Winter Storm Denise.

While the parents were a little chilly, they say it's fun for the kids, especially if it means getting them out of the house.
