Eve's Supper Club celebrates 40 years at current location

GREEN BAY - On November 13th, 1972, Anita Morella celebrated her birthday starting a new job at a new restaurant.

“I never thought we'd be here 40 years ago,” said Morella, a waitress at Eve’s Supper Club. “I remember Eva saying we'd be here about 10. All of a sudden it's 40 years later. It's incredible.”

Forty years later, Morella isn't the only holdover from the beginning days of Eve's Supper Club.

Jerry Haltaufderheid's family founded the supper club. It’s been in business 45 years, but Tuesday marked 40 years at its current location.

“There were about four or five in town, so we were one of the newer attractions so it was quite hectic for years,” said Haltaufderheid.

“We don't know where that time goes,” said Jarreth Haltaufderheid, Jerry’s wife.

One of the owners is always at the restaurant.

“We'll greet you at the door and say goodnight to you when you leave,” said Jarreth Haltaufderheid.

“We offer the cheese and crackers as you walk in, all of your dinners include potatoes and salad, bread,” said Jerry Haltaufderheid.

“The waitresses are the same, the bartenders are the same, the food is still very good, the cocktails are still very good, so I wouldn't say there's been a lot of changes,” said Don Seehawer of Green Bay, who is a regular customer.

While not much has changed, time has made some things different.

“We used to have crews come in, they'd have four or five drinks, go back to work and didn't think anything about it, but that doesn't happen anymore,” said Jerry Haltaufderheid.

Haltaufderheid says that might be the reason some supper clubs have suffered.

For Eve's, loyalty among employees and customers has helped keep things going.

“It's almost like family, well, it is family around here, but the customers are very close,” said Roger Haberland, a bartender at Eve’s.

As long as that continues, Eve's and its longtime employees like Morella will keep the supper club tradition alive.

“I still enjoy it,” said Morella. “Might have to do it another ten years.”

The owners say it hasn't always been easy, especially with the recession. They also say they'd like to keep the business in the family for years to come.
