Fans talk Driver's future

GREEN BAY - Fans gave Donald Driver a warm welcome at the season's final Inside the Huddle Monday night. But they're hoping it won't be his last.

"He's the best, like I'm so sad he may be leaving Green Bay, because he is my favorite player of all time for sure," said Samantha Shefchik of Green Bay.

"I'd like to see him come back, you know, but it's one of those hard decisions you have to make, between the team, and an old veteran player and I guess we'll just have to wait and see," explained Dave Rees of Oshkosh.

Whatever the future holds, there's no doubt Driver will leave quite a legacy here in Northeast Wisconsin.

"He's just a class act on and off the field," Shefchik said.

The Donald Driver Celebrity Softball Game is one of the largest fundraisers for the Donald Driver Foundation. The charity helps area homeless families and improves educational opportunities for disadvantaged youth.

"I'd say total over the years he's hosted it probably approaching a million dollars," explained Driver's marketing agent Brian Lammi. "It just helps him give back to the Donald Driver Foundation and the cause they support."

The softball game is played at Fox Cities Stadium, home of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Assistant general manager Aaron Hahn says the only available seating left for this summer's game is in the grass.

"He's just such a popular, outgoing guy that he puts everything he has into the event," Hahn said.

"I think he'd like to stay with it for a long time, but we'll just have to wait and see what the future holds," Lammi explained.

Whether on or off the field, fans hope that future is here in Green Bay, since they say nothing will replace their beloved #80.

"We just love Donald Driver, that smile is the best," Shefchik said.

The Donald Driver Celebrity Softball game is scheduled for June 16th.
