Fawn rescued from ice on Green Bay

GREEN BAY - A young deer is safe, after wandering onto some ice in Green Bay.

The fawn was found on the bay off of Nicolet Drive Sunday morning.

Thin ice made rescuing it nearly impossible.

At one point, police arrived to put it out of its misery.

But officials said the fawn was too far away to shoot.

A local resident, who eventually saved the deer, said it's not the first time he's rescued animals.

"We've rescued animals before. We rescued a pelican a couple of years ago. We went after him with a boat, brought him in, and he's now a permanent resident at the NEW Zoo," said William Acker.

Acker and another man were able to rope the deer and pull it to shore.

They said the fawn was uninjured, and ran into some brush.
