GREEN BAY - Some Green Bay firefighters gave a local restaurant owner and her family the day off Friday.
They manned the kitchen, bussed the tables and served customers at the Mill Town Café.
They were there to raise money and awareness for the cafe's owner who has cancer.
It wasn't always easy, but volunteers say it was well worth it.
"We've been happy, joking around just having a good time with the customers. It's been just a phenomenal event for us. And the meaning behind it has been good for everyone involved,” Chad Bronkhorst, Green Bay Area Firefighters Local 141.
The cafe's owner is receiving a bone marrow transplant in Milwaukee.
Thanks to the firefighters her family was also able to take the day off and be by her side.
