GREEN BAY - A Green Bay student has taken it upon herself to help abused children.
Chappell Elementary's Kayla Laakonen raised more than $240 selling popsicles.
She used the money to buy diapers, video games and movies for children at the Willow Tree Cornerstone Child Advocacy center.
The items were donated Thursday.
She says a video on child abuse inspired her to act.
"I couldn't believe how many children would get beaten up by their parents or they were physically abused,” said Laakonen. “I automatically had to do something about it. I couldn't just let them sit there like that.”
Willow Tree officials say they hope other people will be inspired by Kayla to help out children in need.
