ASHWAUBENON - The 19th annual Golden Apple Awards program kicked off Wednesday.
FOX 11’s Tom Milbourn stopped by Valley View Elementary School in Ashwaubenon.
The interruption was to thank teachers like Kirsten Marto and Christen Steele for what they do in area classrooms day after day, year after year.
“Is Mrs. Steele a really good teacher?” asked Tom.
“Yeah!" the kids excitedly replied.
The purpose of the stop was to teach students it’s now time to nominate their current or past teacher for a 2012 Golden Apple.
The teachers say it's the children who are their inspiration.
"Not only do they learn from me, but I learn from them every day. And I never know what's gonna happen from day to day. They keep me on my feet. Just makes it exciting,” said Steele, a 1st grade teacher.
"They grow an enormous amount especially in fourth grade. They really come in to their own. They're becoming writers, readers on their own. They're just fantastic. Huge growth,” said Marto, a 4th grade teacher.
