GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - The family of a fallen Marine has decided not to continue organizing a run that had been held for the last seven years in his honor.
Pfc. Ryan Jerabek was killed with 11 other Marines in 2004 in an ambush in Iraq.
His family had been organizing the annual Ryan Jerabek Memorial Challenge, which also raised money for the Semper Fi Fund. It benefits injured servicemen and women.
Jerabek's father, Ken Jerabek, says the event collected more than $100,000 in its seven years. The last event was Aug. 11.
He tells the Green Bay Press-Gazette the family is burning out and had to discontinue it for their own well-being. He says they've done a lot of soul searching.
