GREEN BAY - The city of Green Bay is taking a first step toward revoking the liquor license of a downtown bar it calls a longtime nuisance.
For years, the city says it has been building its case against the owners of Liquid 8.
Green Bay's assistant city attorney filed the summons this week.
Inside is a request to permanently revoke Liquid 8's liquor license.
The bar is located on Washington Street.
The complaint documents what the assistant city attorney calls 16 separate major incidents at this location in the past three years.
"It includes everything from liquor law violations, operating after hours, serving underage, and allowing underage people to be on the premises. As well as violent incidents with clientele, that includes two stabbings within three years," said Jim Mueller, Green Bay assistant city attorney.
Mueller says the most recent stabbing occurred three weeks ago.
"We've worked with this bar in the past. We've given them opportunities to clean up their act. They failed to do so. We're at this point right now where we're, the city isn't asking for suspension, we're asking for complete revocation of this liquor license," said Mueller.
FOX 11 made numerous attempts to contact the owners of Liquid 8 for comment on the story. Our calls have gone unreturned.
"There's an awful lot of material here that merits this problem being mitigated completely," said Dave Boyce, Green Bay city alderman.
Boyce says Liquid 8 is at the gateway to the entertainment district on N. Washington St.
"It's about time we just drop the hammer on the situation that hasn't been very healthy over the years," said Boyce.
A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in front of the protection and welfare committee.
The committee will make its recommendation to the full city council.
If the council takes action, Liquid 8 could be ordered shut down as early as March 19.
