GREEN BAY - Ryan Homa, a former executive at Robinson Metals, was sentenced Tuesday to 46 months in prison for stealing $1.27 million from the company.
Federal Judge William Griesbach also placed Homa on three years supervised release after his prison term is completed, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney William Roach.
Homa was the controller at the De Pere-based Robinson. Prosecutors alleged that between December 2007 and September 2011, Homa illegally wrote more than 130 checks to a phony business he created. Once deposited, he used the money to buy real estate, build a home and for other personal use.
The total amount of restitution Homa owed actually totaled $1.76 million. Besides the money stolen, Robinson Metals incurred federal tax penalties, had to hire forensic accountants and lawyers, and had other expenses related to the thefts, Roach said.
Homa has repaid about $430,000. He still owes the company $831,795.26 and also owes an insurance company $500,000.
