GREEN BAY - For many hunters, it's like the day before Christmas: They are getting ready to hit the woods in search of the big buck.
As hunters get ready for the deer season opener, many say they've done what some say is a typical male shopping tradition—Procrastination.
"Just getting my deer hunting license. Last minute, go figure, eh?” said Robbie Diederich of Green Bay, as he bought at hunting license at Gander Mountain Friday afternoon.
"License, last minute. I don't prep as much as other guys do right now,” said Nate Janczak, also picking up things last minute.
Despite last minute purchases, hunters say Saturday's the big day, the day they look forward to all year: Getting out in the woods, hoping to spot a deer.
"Once we get on the road and start heading up north, it just gets more and more exciting,” said Diederich.
"You never know what you're going to see. Could be a big buck, maybe nothing. You never know, I hope to see the big one,” said Paul Rendfliesch, shopping with his father and young son.
"It's just one of those almost adrenaline rushes I guess you don't really get often,” said Brett DeGrave of Pulaski.
Though every hunter dreams of bagging that 30 point buck, many hunters we spoke with say the best parts of the tradition are getting together with family and friends, and enjoying nature.
"If I see a deer, I see a deer. I'm not as avid as maybe everybody else,” said Janczak.
“It's a time when you can take your time and relax and enjoy nature and still hunt,” said Ken Van Wychen.
"Getting up north, getting away, hanging out with the boys. Hot sticks, meaty food. Deer hunting, I guess!" said Diederich.
And with their newly printed licenses and rifles in hand, these folks are ready to hit the woods.
