GREEN BAY - The man whose trailer detached and killed a University of Wisconsin-Green Bay student on Highway 41 in April will pay $401 in fines.
State Patrol officials said they found no criminal negligence on the part of James McDermid, 59, of Abrams. He was issued two citations in the April 20 crash that killed Whitney Radder, 19. McDermid’s trailer detached and crossed the center line, hitting Radder’s car, which was traveling in the opposite direction.
In court Friday, McDermid pleaded no contest to the citations for towing with improper safety chains and having couplings or cables that failed to meet safety standards. He has 60 days to pay fines of $200.50 on each count.
