Packers show off Lambeau's new video boards

GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers offered a sneak-peek on Tuesday at the new video boards being installed at Lambeau Field.

Giant high definition video monitors will tower over the stadium's two end zones.

The Packers say upgrades to the in-house production studio will make the game-day experience even better.

When it comes to HDTV, the Green Bay Packers say bigger is better.

"There are no finer scoreboards in the country," said Tim Connelly, Packers vice president of sales and marketing.

Construction on two huge video screens is right on schedule.

"I think people are going to be blown away," said Kregg Shilbauer, Made Ya Look Productions owner.

Fifty feet high and twice as long.

"If you bought 1,100 40-inch flat screens and glued them all together. That's how big it is on each end. That's a lot of TV out there, and we're excited about that," said Connelly.

There's more to the project than big screen televisions, the Lambeau Field production crew is getting a serious upgrade.

Eight new HD cameras, eight feeds from the networks, and 12 different angles will be able to show replays instantly.

"With the added cameras it's really going to give the fan a totally different look at game day, when you're sitting here in the stands," said Shilbauer.

And when a play gets reviewed, the NFL will allow the big screens to show just what the referee is looking at under-the-hood.

"What did he see that we're not seeing? I think it's going to give you an opportunity a fan to go oh, that's what he saw," said Shilbauer.

The smaller side boards will show messages, advertisements and action from around the league.

"We can have the big board focus on the game and have the auxiliary boards bringing highlights, leading rushers, leading passers and all the fantasy stats that people like," said Connelly.

Construction in the north end zone should be complete in three weeks. Crews hope to finish the south end zone scoreboard in time for the shareholders meeting on July 24th.

"We're looking forward to looking at their faces when they see that board. It's 1080. It's as good as it gets," said Connelly.
