MetJet cancels flights from May to Oct.

DE PERE - It was supposed to be a more convenient way to take a trip to Florida or Minnesota.

But now, an inconvenience for hundreds of people who booked tickets with De Pere-based MetJet.

The company planned to begin weekend non-stop, round trip service from Ashwaubenon to Orlando and Minneapolis in May.

But now, the new air service provider has canceled its first four months of flights.

MetJet says this is a problem out of its control, and it's willing to issue refunds and help customers find new flights.

However, some customers are still upset as they'll need to arrange different travel plans that could be more costly.

Katina Wade, for example, says she couldn't believe her good fortune when she discovered MetJet. This, as she planned for her son's band trip to Florida.

"When MetJet came along it was just a godsend," said Wade.

Pleased to find a convenient, direct flight out of the Green Bay area to Orlando, she quickly booked her tickets.

"I thought, oh, we can leave right out of Green Bay, and it's actually a lot cheaper than if we would have went to Milwaukee," Wade said.

However, Wade just received an email from MetJet stating those tickets are no longer good.

"I was just blown away that this was not a joke, it's for real," Wade said.

And Wade isn't the only one affected. All MetJet flights between May 25th and October 1st have been canceled.

"We are very, very sorry that it came to this," said MetJet founder and CEO Mike Heisman.

Heisman said the company decided to cancel the flights after its credit card processor said it would stop processing tickets.

"Because we were processing so many charges, we were viewed as a high risk for the credit card processor," said Heisman.

Heisman said he filed for replacement service. However, other companies have so far declined. Heisman believes that is because of financial issues with other charter flight companies.

"Without having the ability to raise additional revenue, we could start flights and then just run out of money and leave people stranded, or we could try to find other solutions," Heisman said.

Heisman said he's found a solution but it will take 60 to 90 days to implement. So MetJet is in the process of notifying the approximately 1,000 passengers that had round trip tickets.

"So rather than string our passengers along, we're being proactive saying, 'Hey, we've got a solution in the works, we want to keep the company intact, and as such we have to cancel flights.'"

With her trip now two months out, Wade is concerned she won't find a good deal on flights. She says won't ever give MetJet another chance.

"No, no I would not. I told them that today as well," Wade said.

Heisman said he understands the frustration expressed by some of his customers, but says for the most part many have been understanding.

He added people who booked with the company will be receiving a full refund for their flights this week.
