GREEN BAY - A big moment for the Meyer Theatre Friday, as a new marquee was unveiled for the downtown Green Bay landmark.
Demolition of the Meyer’s old marquee told place earlier this month along with construction of the new sign.
It has a similar look to the signage from the Fox Theatre days. That’s what the building was originally called when it open on Valentine’s Day 1930.
The previous marquee had been in place since the late 50s and was damaged by a wind storm about five years ago.
“By bringing the Meyer back to its full glory with the outside matching the beauty of the inside, we have an opportunity to not only bring the history of the Green Bay back up – to take the gem that is the downtown of Green Bay, the Meyer Theatre and allow people to see what’s going on inside,” said Rob Riordan, Meyer Theatre Board President.
Tonight at 7:30 p.m., the Meyer will hold the official lighting for the new marquee for donors and those attending the Let Me Be Frank Production “St. Mary’s Roller Rink,” which begins at 8 p.m.
