SCOTT - The statue of explorer Jean Nicolet was moved to a new home Thursday.
Nicolet is believed to be the first European to set foot in what is now Wisconsin when he landed somewhere on the eastern shore of Green Bay in 1634.
A statue was erected in 1950 along Highway 57, paid for in part by donations by school children. But when the highway was rebuilt, easy access to the park was lost.
The statue was moved Thursday to its new home in Wequiock Falls Park. Brown County has taken ownership of the statue.
"I think its going to be a major attraction for people of Wequiock Falls, especially with what the county has done with the viewing stand at the falls, said Tom Depas, a town of Scott supervisor.
Some work must still be done on the base.
