DE PERE - People gathered for a grand opening celebration at a De Pere pantry Saturday afternoon.
De Pere Christian Outreach opened three weeks ago, but today marked the official unveiling to the public.
Nine area churches help sponsor the pantry, now located on Chicago Street.
The pantry outgrew its former location, a small closet at St. Anne's, which led to the construction of the new facility.
Organizers said the need in the community drove the project, and it will better serve the public.
"It's fantastic, their need has grown by 400 percent in the last five years, and because of this facility they'll be able to serve the community for at least 20 years to come," said project manager Jim Stupka.
Organizers said volunteers and donations helped play a key role in the project.
